MJ Vieira, Author

What kind of writing do you do?

I do a number of different genres but it’s safe to say my work is fiction. I have published a paranormal thriller, high fantasy and horror. Most of my stories have a mythological subtext. For example, I created an entirely new pantheon for my Manjian Chronicles while my werewolf series has both Norse and Native American mythos involved.

Who are your favorite authors/writers?

I have so many! Off the top of my head? JRR Tolkien, Slaughter, Karen Marie Monning, Laurel K. Hamilton, Joe Hill and Darcy Coates.

What writing projects are you currently working on?

Too many-haha. I have follow ups to Firebird in my Manjian Chronicles; Aequitas, the third installment in my Veritas Series; Route 201 Part 2. For works in progress (remember these are working titles) Jayce, Book one of the Beskytte Clan Series; Familiar, Book One of the Dirgio Chronicles; and Runes, A Viking’s Tale.

What challenges do you overcome on a regular basis so that you can write?

Well, normally I have a full time job and that obviously takes up precious time and energy away from writing. However, on a personal note, I battle with Fibromyalgia, Lymes disease and arthritis. Some days, getting out of bed is hard. When I’m struggling physically, my writing suffers. On the other side of that however, sometimes I can channel the pain into good writing.

What would you say to someone who wants to write, but is hesitant?

Go for it! You never know until you try. I started my first book with the prologue scene which sat for 3 three years before I picked it backup and finished it. I figured it was dumb, why bother? Then a friend of mine read it and told me to keep going. Here I am, five books published.

What impact do you hope your writing makes on the world?

My main goal for any of my stories is to give people the initiative to look deeper within to figure out who they are; to explore what it means to be human. And, like most people, I wish to entertain and provide an escape for people dealing with the doldrums of everyday life.
